College can be expensive, which is one of the main reasons many people don’t return for further education. When we’re young, we sometimes take for granted some of the opportunities that come our way, like going to college, but as we age, many of us understand the value of education.

Maybe you’re looking for a career change, or perhaps you just graduated high school and are wanting to save money during the first couple of years of school by taking online classes. No matter your circumstance, you need to save money while taking steps toward achieving your goals. Fortunately, you can do this with one of our 50 most affordable online colleges!

What Is an Affordable Online College?

What is considered affordable to one person may not be affordable to another. We formulated a list of schools with some of the cheapest online tuitions, so you can expect our 50 colleges to be the most cost-effective out there. The number one choice on our list is going to be the most affordable, and as you read on the cost of tuition will progressively increase.

How Much Can You Earn With an Online College Degree?

This question depends on the type of degree earned, your age, and the specific job you land. There has been research conducted on this very question, and one study cites that millennials with a college degree earn, on average, more than $17,500 per year!

As important as the amount of extra income you can generate with a college degree may be, the fact remains that college graduates are more likely to have a job than high school graduates. In fact, according to the study linked above, high school graduates are three times more likely to be unemployed when compared to college graduates.

What Is Required to Attend an Online College?

Many online colleges have the same requirements for admission as they do for their on-campus students. You will likely be required to submit your high school transcripts, complete an application packet, and submit ACT or SAT scores if this is your first class at the college level.

If you are applying for a master’s degree, you may be required to submit Graduate Record Examinations or Graduate Management Admissions Test scores. Some programs, however, waive this requirement for applicants with a certain amount of work experience.

What Are the Most Affordable Online Colleges?

OSR uses six data points: three school-wide and three program-specific. For school-wide, OSR uses student satisfaction, admission rates, and the number of programs the school offers online. For program-specific, OSR checks the median debt of graduates from that program, how many degrees are offered within that program’s umbrella department, and what percentage of students at that school graduated from that department.

The six statistics are displayed by each school. The sliding bar under each statistic represents how that school compares to other US institutions. “Not reported” means a school did not release that information to the US Department of Education. A more detailed description of the OSR process can be found on the methodology page.
